HERBALISM WORKSHOP
A day of unwinding, and learning to use herbs for skin care, aromatherapy, and in your beverage mixology.
Hannah will lead attendees through the process of distilling herbs with a copper still, as well as an at-home stovetop method of distilling hydrosols which doesn’t require specialized equipment. The group will come to understand how to responsibly harvest and prepare herbs for distillation, and how to use and store their homemade hydrosols for aromatherapy, skin care and more. As the group learns and observes, we’ll sample various hydrosols and share the ways in which fragrant herbs can evoke emotions, memories and physical sensations. Additional skin care products available for purchase afterwards!
Kember, owner of the waterford inne, and bartender at tallulahs, will take you into the garden to harvest herbs, and demonstrate ways in which you can incorporate herbs into your own mixology at home. We will learn to infuse, make syrup and sample herbal beverages at the bar in the barn. Leave with the confidence to use herbs in your beverages at home, or when entertaining. Additional herbal cocktails for purchase after the workshop!
Hannah Hamilton is an organic farmer and creates a line of small-batch herbal skincare. Her farming experience taught her to seek local ingredients whenever possible, and sought to bring this “localvore” approach to aspects of her daily life beyond food. Her products center around the fragrant hydrosols and essential oils that she produces from the organic herbs she raises on her farm, and pairs these ingredients with other Maine-sourced ingredients such as sea salt, clay, oats and organic oils. She hopes to connect to community through a shared love for the healing plants that thrive in Maine. No prior experience is required. This class is ideal for anyone curious about distillation, herbal home recipes, or expanding their understanding and connection to plants.
